‘If it were totally up to me … it’d be great if everybody showed up,’ former bassist Duff McKagan told MTV News last month.

Ever since Axl Rose very publically announced he wanted nothing to do with Guns N’ Roses induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, speculation has run rampant about just which (if any) of his former (or current) bandmates will be on hand to accept the honor. And with the ceremony set for Saturday in Cleveland, we’re still not sure.
While Rose’s open letter to the Hall may have upset some, one former GN’R man probably wasn’t all that surprised. When MTV News sat down with bassist Duff McKagan (who served in Guns from 1985 until 1997) last month to discuss the paperback release of his biography “It’s So Easy and Other Lies,” well, he didn’t seem all that optimistic that his former bandmates would ever be able to put aside the past two decades of squabbles and appear at the Hall.
“If it were totally up to me … it’d be great if everybody showed up,” he said. “If not, that’s the way it’s supposed to be. That’s it; it’s that simple for me.”
And McKagan has already been down this path before: In 2007, he and his Velvet Revolver mates were tapped to induct — and subsequently jam with — Van Halen, a band whose backstory rivals possibly only GN’R's in terms of acrimony. By all accounts, former frontman David Lee Roth and guitarist Eddie Van Halen were all set to let bygones be bygones, share the stage together and bask in the moment. Of course, that didn’t exactly happen.
“Five years ago, we were going to be the band, and David Lee Roth was going to get on and sing with us, and Eddie was going to play with us, and those guys weren’t talking, but we were going to be the band and they were going to get up and play with us, somehow,” he laughed. “And then it kind of fell apart, and we were already in New York, and we were kind of left holding the bag a little bit.”
Still, even though he was eerily aware of all the drama that would come, McKagan was definitely touched by Guns’ induction into the Hall — mostly because he knows how much it means to his fans (take note, Axl).
“It’s an honor. It’s not something I strove for my entire career, was not even on my radar, but I saw the outpouring of the fan reaction when we were nominated, and suddenly it became important, because I saw how important it was for people who got me to a place where I can be in a house and support my wife and kids,” he said. “And what a journey we had, going from a little club band, playing to three people to eventually playing stadiums, just out of thin air … and it’s really incredible for it to be 25 years later, talking about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
‘I knew he was up there supporting me, period,’ 2 Chainz says of Kanye’s silent appearance on ’106 and Park.’
By Nadeska Alexis, with reporting by Rob Markman
During a February visit to “RapFix Live,” 2 Chainz broke the news to host Sway Calloway that he had been working with Kanye West for months, but now the cat is surely out of the bag. In addition to appearing on the new G.O.O.D. Music single “Mercy,” West popped up at 2 Chainz’s SXSW set, and this week he made a silent appearance alongside the Atlanta rapper on BET’s “106 and Park.”
“That’s my dog and he doesn’t do press — he didn’t wanna do it period — and they kind of forced his hand,” 2 Chainz told MTV News of West’s “106 and Park” appearance, from the set of MTV’s “Hip Hop Squares. “I was like, ‘You don’t have to say nothing, bro,’ because at the end of the day I knew he was up there supporting me, period.”
“I do a lot of things behind the scenes that people don’t know , and they only see on ’106 and Park,’ ” 2 Chainz continued. “So that would’ve been another event where they wouldn’t have known Kanye was back there, I wouldn’t have name-dropped, that would’ve been part of my process of just working hard and grinding it out.”
Although ‘Ye’s appearance was clearly not planned, it seems like everything worked out for the best. “When he came out, it spilled the beans out the bag, but it was cool,” Chainz says. “It was good for hip-hop that he came out and showed support. He wasn’t trying to take the shine, but he’s just a megastar, anywhere he goes it’s gonna happen.”
When he joined Sway on “RapFix Live,” 2 Chainz, formerly known as Tity Boi, explained the dynamic of his relationship with ‘Ye. “For the most part, when we started building our relationship, we found out we had more things in common than different from a musical standpoint,” he said. “It’s no secret that I came from the hustle background, from that trap, and it’s no secret that he’s maybe more of a hipster swag, backpack kinda guy. So I think it’ll be interesting when you just drop that in the pot, in the blender, and see the outcome and results of some of that.”
2 Chainz’s upcoming album Based on a T.R.U. Story is set for an August 14 release, with the first official single slated to drop on May 1.

Pair reportedly may appear together in Ridley Scott’s ‘The Counselor,’ starring Michael Fassbender.
By Fallon Prinzivalli
Have you heard the news, movie fans? Seven years after meeting on the set of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are engaged! No, for real this time. Cynthia Pett-Dante, Pitt’s manager, confirmed the news on Friday (April 13), saying, “It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy.”
Robert Procop, the designer of Jolie’s engagement ring, released a statement to People: “Brad had a specific vision for this ring, which he realized over a yearlong collaboration with Robert. He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect, so Robert was able to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom size and shape to suit Angelina’s hand.”
We can hear all the ladies in our office swooning, but that’s not the only exciting news for fans of the Hollywood power couple. Pitt and Jolie may star together alongside Michael Fassbender in the forthcoming movie “The Counselor.”
Deadline Hollywood reports that director Ridley Scott wanted Pitt and Javier Bardem for the movie. As he’s close to getting them both, rumors are circulating that Jolie might also be in talks to play the female lead. She and Scott have been collaborating on a Gertrude Bell biopic, which may have led to the rumors. With Brangelina’s engagement now official, it would make sense that the actors would want to remain close to one another.
But Pitt and Jolie wouldn’t be the only ones to reunite via “The Counselor.” This would be the first time Scott and Pitt work together since Scott directed “Thelma & Louise,” a film that undoubtedly launched Pitt’s career.
“The Counselor” was written by Cormac McCarthy. It follows a well-respected lawyer (Fassbender) who gets involved in the drug business and quickly finds himself in a situation that’s more than he can handle. If cast in the film, Pitt would play a shady middleman and Bardem would be Fassbender’s associate. The movie is said to start filming in June and Fox is currently negotiating to distribute.

‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ singer Kimbra jokes that she probably won’t appear in any sketches on late-night comedy show.
By Jocelyn Vena
Looking for some moody music to set the tone this Saturday night? Well, Kimbra and Gotye have your back. The chart-topping duo are set to perform their heartbreaking track “Somebody That I Used to Know” this week on “Saturday Night Live” as the show’s musical guests.
When Kimbra stopped by the MTV Newsroom on Friday (April 13), just one day before her late-night performance, she opened up about the opportunity to hit the stage in the famed studio. ” ‘Saturday Night Live’ is going to be great. I’m really excited,” she said. “We’ve had a few rehearsals. It’s really cool to just get a feel of the whole vibe. I’ve heard such great stuff about the experience. It’s gonna be awesome.”
While many musical artists have joined in the fun of appearing in comedy sketches on the show, Kimbra admits she won’t be cracking any jokes this weekend. “Not that I know of! I hope not. That would be fun, but I’m not very funny!” the native New Zealander shared, noting that she’s mostly only watched clips online. “I haven’t seen all that much of the show. I’ve seen little bits here and there. I know Tina Fey used to be on it. It looks so much fun. It’s gonna be great.
“I think ‘SNL’ is so well-known for its musical performances, as well, and people really breaking into America through a really great performance on there,” she added. “So I think me and Gotye are both really excited to be amongst such company. You know, it’s great.”
This gig is yet another milestone for Kimbra and Gotye as they continue to find small-screen and chart success with “Somebody That I Used to Know.” It was covered on “Glee” and has been featured on “The Voice” and “American Idol.”
This week’s “SNL” will be hosted by “Men in Black III” star Josh Brolin.
Singer weighs in on how literal the video will get and when fans might get to hear more from Believe.

The countdown is on to Justin Bieber‘s next album release, Believe. And if the response to the album’s first single, “Boyfriend,” is any indication, the record’s appeal might span far beyond the realm of his devoted Beliebers.
“The reaction’s been great ; not only have I got good reactions from my fans, but great reactions from people who, you know, . I’ve gotten messages like ‘You know, I never would have listened to Justin and now I love this song,’ ” he explained to MTV News. “So, it’s really great feedback.”
It’s that kind of enthusiasm that Bieber is taking with him as he works on the record in its final stages. He’s already hit the studio with folks like Drake, will.i.am, Diplo and Usher and is just chugging along before he has to wrap up and send it out into the world.
“There’s not a confirmed release date. It’s this summer. I’m really happy with the outcome of it so far,” he said. “I mean, we’re almost done. We’re just kind of putting the finishing touches on it. It should be good.”
But before then, fans will have to satisfy their appetites with the Colin Tilley-directed “Boyfriend” video, which should drop in the near future. Unfortunately, the visual won’t mirror the single’s choice lyrics, “I could be your Buzz Lightyear/ Fly across the globe.”
“No, no, I won’t be dressed up as Buzz Lightyear,” he said. “I think there’s some copyright issues, I can’t use that.”
We look forward to seeing whether Bieber will be “Chillin’ by the fire while we eatin’ fondue” in the clip.

After Perry tweeted that she’s changed up her locks (again), MTV News remembers her more daring ‘dos.

Breaking news: Katy Perry has changed her hair again!
The singer took to Twitter to announce that she’s found a new hair color, but her fans will have to wait to find out what it is. “You know what’s great about having poison oak?! NOTHING #itchgasm Somehow in the middle of all this… I found time to change my hair color,” she wrote. “Finally… #takeaguess #foreverawalkingpantonepalette.”
Despite not sharing too much about her hair color, she did offer up this tidbit of a tease about her current look: “Pretty stoked about my 90′s The Craft meets Garbage meets Tank Girl meets early No Doubt meets Ty from Clueless lewk 4 dis wknd #ohmygoth.”
Perry had famously been sporting berry-blue hair since January, changing the hue and length but maintaining indigo as the base, strutting her blue self all over carpets, hitting up events and wearing it in an ad campaign for Adidas.
“Of course, being Katy, she is a lot more edgy and she’s cooler and she likes to take a lot of risks. And I love that she’s like, ‘I’m feeling a little blue, let’s go blue’ — not in her energy, just in her hair color,” Perry’s hair colorist, Rita Hazan, explained to MTV News. “I felt like it’s the perfect color for her, because her eyes are blue and she has the perfect skin tone to be a really vibrant, really cool, intense blue.”
Now, it seems that Perry has once again changed up her look — and Hazan said that’s just Katy being Katy. “She’s kind of this candy-coated sort of person,” Hazan said. “It’s nice to see her experiment with different things.”
Fans might have to wait to see what Perry’s latest look is, but to tide you over, MTV News has rounded up some of Perry’s wildest, most memorable hairstyles — so far.
2010 Kids’ Choice Awards
Perry kept it traditionally Katy, sporting what happens to be her signature look: black hair with cropped, Bettie Page-style bangs. To make the look even more Perry-fied, she graced the carpet in a multicolored, sparkly, showgirl-style bodysuit and sparkly heels.
In a particularly glam moment, Perry softened her sometimes-severe hair and went for soft waves. Sure, it was still jet-black, but the middle part and the curls fit the occasion, giving her a truly old school Hollywood look, certainly matching her angelic ensemble.
Later in 2011, Perry began to get more and more experimental with her hair color. Transitioning out of the black, Katy hit up the “Smurfs” red carpet in July surprisingly not in blue hair, but in an ombre look that faded from blonde to strawberry blonde. She paid homage to Smurfette by donning a sequined dress with the character’s image on it.
Pulling a completely funky move on her way through the rainbow, shortly after the “Smurfs” premiere, she hit up the VMAs in late August with piercing pink hair. It was a look she adopted right before going blonde and then settling on the blue. Dressed up like a couture geisha, Perry’s lavender-hued pink was flirty and fun.
2012 Kids’ Choice Awards
Throwing her blue hair for a loop, Perry hit up the Kids’ Choice Awards last month with a multihued ponytail. With touches of purple and blue, the neon hair recalled lots of the colors she had been sporting over the last few months, serving as the perfect farewell to this phase of her hair evolution. Plus, it just happened to go perfectly with her bright-green outfit.
