‘I’m not gonna lie, it feels like you’re not gonna recover,’ the ‘Jersey Shore’ star tells MTV News in an exclusive post-rehab interview.

The mantra you often hear from people in recovery is “one day at a time.” And two months after entering a facility to deal with a prescription-medication addiction, “Jersey Shore” star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino knows exactly what that means.
“Ever since I’ve been out, I’m not gonna lie … it’s not easy,” Sorrentino told MTV News’ Sway in an exclusive interview in which the “Shore” star talks about his struggle to get sober and his attempts to make amends with his “Shore” roomies, especially soon-to-be-mom Snooki. “But at the same time, where I’m at right now, I’m at a good place. But it took a little bit to get there. In the beginning? A lot of rainy days, so to speak. A lot of rainy days.”
In the candid interview, Sorrentino opened up about how he got hooked on prescription pills while denying rumors that any illicit substances were involved. With a renewed, more focused sparkle in his eye, the drama king “Shore” viewers loved to hate in recent seasons said he could barely recognize the man he’d become under the grip of addiction as he recounted the struggle of his first days in rehab.
“Your first day is detox,” he said of the program he attended. “It’s not a pleasurable experience at all. … In the beginning, for sure, when I was in Utah, I’d wake up and just be extremely disappointed with myself. Like, ‘I can’t believe I got here. How did I get here?’ ” Mike said he worried about how his addiction would impact his family, his health and his mind, and at one point, he wondered if he’d end up another tragic Hollywood headline if he pushed things too far.
The hardest part for him, he said, was the headlong rush of emotions he felt once he began to come out of his drug fog, a torrent of feelings he’d been blocking that nearly overwhelmed him. “I’m not gonna lie, it feels like you’re not gonna recover,” he said about that emotional roller coaster. “It feels like an impossible deed … day-by-day it gets better.”
Now that the “old Mike” is back, Sorrentino said he’s gotten supportive emails from much of this “Shore” TV family over the past two months, but the one relationship he still needs to repair is his once-close bond with Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi.
“She had my back and I had her back too,” he said of the formerly tight duo. “We were close for a long time. … I am going to say that I am upset that we’re not as close as we are today. I care about the girl, for sure.”
Mike said Snooki did tell him she was worried about him and asked if he was OK during the throes of his addiction, questions he brushed off at the time. When asked by Sway if there was anything he’d done that he’d want to apologize to Snooki for, Sorrentino was quick to answer.
“Hurting her feelings,” he said. “I would never want to hurt that girl’s feelings. That girl is very special to me. If I could turn back the clock, which I always say that I have no regrets … definitely hurting her feelings … and our friendship.”
Band will attempt to break Hov’s record for most live concerts in 24 hours at the O Music Awards, set for June 27.
By James Montgomery
The O Music Awards are back once again. And this time, they’re taking the bus … all day long.
Yes, on June 27, the digitally driven event will let someone else take the wheel as they play out aboard a tricked-out tour bus that will travel through the Mississippi Delta, the birthplace of rock and roll. The trek — from Memphis to New Orleans — will take place over 24 hours, making the O Music Awards the world’s first 24-hour awards-show live stream.
Of course, that’s not the only first that’ll take place during the show. In keeping with tradition, the O Music Awards will also see another attempt at a Guinness World Record as the Flaming Lips ride along aboard the bus as the de facto house band and aim to break Jay-Z’s record for the most live concerts in 24 hours by playing gigs in eight different cities.
“I don’t remember if I was asked or if I volunteered. … But I’ve accepted the job of not driving but commandeering the Magical Mystery Merry Prankster bus,” Lips frontman Wayne Coyne said. “I’ve accepted the attempt at breaking the world record of performing eight shows in 24 hours. And I’ve explained to the music freaks at MTV, VH1 and CMT that I am not a host. … But I always liked the way Jerry Lewis would get all sweaty toward the end of his yearly telethon. To play and sing Flaming Lips songs at eight in the morning, well … I’m open to new experiences.”
You can watch Coyne go for greatness on June 27 when the O Music Awards stream live at OMusicAwards.com. That’s also where you can vote for your favorites — including Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Taylor Swift and, uh, MC Hammer — in O Music Award categories like Fan Army FTW, Must-Follow Artist on Twitter, and Too Much Ass for TV, given to the best NSFW video.
The full list of nominees can be seen over on the O Music Awards official site. Additional performers and presenters for the June 27 show will be announced in the coming weeks.
Rapper tells MTV News police ‘misconstrued’ his four-finger ring as a weapon.
By Rob Markman
It’s no secret 2 Chainz loves his jewelry, and while the Atlanta rapper is known to start a riot or two with his raps, he never thought his expensive trinkets would cause such a ruckus.
Earlier Tuesday (May 22), 2 Chainz was arrested In New York’s LaGuardia Airport after officials found what they described as “brass knuckles” in his luggage, but it was nothing more than a four-finger ring, the rapper said.
“They tried to assassinate my character, they tried to assassinate my swag,” 2 Chainz told MTV News in an exclusive telephone interview. “It was just a negative dilemma earlier where someone misconstrued a piece of jewelry for a weapon and stuff.”
Police took Chainz into custody around 1:45 p.m. ET and charged him with misdemeanor possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. “The knuckles were in his personal bag and sounded the alarm,” an officer told MTV News on Tuesday.
“I do exclusive pieces. My pieces are actual conversation pieces, like, literally. When you see my gold, when you see my stuff, it’s something to conversate about,” Deuce explained. “People weren’t doing four-finger rings and all that. I just like to set myself apart, so I definitely wasn’t trying to beat nobody up on the airplane or nothing.”
The rapper was on his way to perform at a North Carolina concert, and when he phoned MTV from New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport, he estimated that he spent approximately eight to nine hours behind bars. 2 Chainz eventually pleaded guilty to a lesser, unspecified charge but never got his jewels back. “Yeah, they took it from me, they took the Louis case that I actually keep the jewelry in, they took that. I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “Me just trying to explain it was getting too frustrating, me just trying to explain my occupation and then when they finally got to the jail and everybody knew who I was, then they started calling their kids and putting me on the phone with their kids. It was like a weird experience.”
Though he was upset about the situation, 2 Chainz chose to focus on the positive. His debut album, Based on a T.R.U. Story, is set to drop August 14, he is currently on tour with Drake, and he’s involved with Respect My Vote, an initiative that encourages young people to participate in the voting process.
Now, 2 Chainz hopes to be able to put the arrest behind him. “I don’t find that intriguing. You’re supposed to make your mistakes during adolescence and use these times right here to kinda fix some of the things you did in the past, so with me I’m doing Respect My Vote, I’m doing all kind of things to try to have some positive news.”

2 Chainz joined Drake on his Club Paradise Tour in Atlanta on Sunday night. But while jetting from New York to North Carolina on Tuesday (May 22) for another stop on the cross-country jaunt, the rapper was arrested for carrying “brass knuckles” in his bag.
A Port Authority officer confirmed to MTV News that 2 Chainz (born Tauheed Epps) was apprehended while entering the Delta Airlines terminal at New York City’s LaGuardia Airport after officials found a pair of “metal knuckles” in his carry-on bag. Police took Chainz into custody for misdemeanor possession of a weapon in the 4th degree at around 1:45 p.m. ET. “The knuckles were in his personal bag and sounded the alarm,” the officer told us.
The “No Lie” rapper was held in detention at the airport, where he’ll eventually be taken to Queens County Central booking to be formally charged. Meanwhile, his peers, including DJ Drama and Big Sean, who saw him wearing the ring earlier this week, have addressed the arrest on Twitter, calling foul.
“2 chainz ain’t have no brass knuckles, it was a 4 finger ring that spelled hood,” Big Sean wrote minutes after news of the arrest was reported. “We had a shoot yesturday n he was rockin em.”
DJ Drama, who dropped The Lost Tape with 50 Cent on Tuesday, spread the #Free2Chainz hashtag, adding an Instagram photo that shows 2 Chainz wearing the ring — clearly designed just for style.
MTV News caught up with the Def Jam signee before he took the stage in Atlanta on Sunday night, and he’s seen sporting the same ring in the video footage. “The atmosphere is just unexplainable right now,” he said of Drake’s Club Paradise Tour. “We just came from the West Coast and the closer we get to home, the warmer it feels, as far as the welcome.”
In the past few months, the Playaz Circle rapper has broken out of the underground to become a fixture on the mainstream, but he emphasizes that it was a long time in the making.
“I built a relationship with Drake on I Am Music Tour,” he said. “I met Nicki and Drake on the tour, and they’re the ones that kept in the back of my mind that I could do something, because I knew them when they were just trying to get on like me.”
Fans can catch 2 Chainz in much better spirits on tonight’s premiere episode of MTV2′s “Hip Hop Squares” at 11p.m.ET.
