I patiently waited for DMX among a small crowd that had gathered outside the “RapFix Live” studio for a glimpse of the performer, who was interviewing with Sway on Wednesday. When Mr. X emerged from the green room, he was in a playful mood.
“Will you take a picture with me, Mr. X?” I asked. “I am a GIANT fan. Really.” I had even written an open letter to him on my blog in 2008! I wanted to shout, “Sign my blog!” but the Internet has yet to invent a way to do this.
DMX then looked at me with a slow, quiet smile and said: “You are… You are… Can I pinch your cheeks?”
I laughed, a little surprised, and said yes. This is not something you say no to. He grasped the flesh underneath my eyeglasses with both hands. Who knew DMX was such a bubbe, wanting to pinch cheeks like a grandmother? Then we hugged like old friends as a consort snapped away. I finally let go of his dark, wool jacket emblazoned with “Champion” on the back and stood aside for the others.
Another fan asked him to sign DMX’s yearbook, somehow procured on the Internet, which prompted the rapper to ask him: “What was the second line from my first track ever?” The fan stumbled and couldn’t remember, but the charismatic “I Don’t Dance” singer laughed it off and the playful exchange delighted everyone watching. He was very gracious to everyone, which I knew he would be.
What would you do if you met DMX? Comment below and tell us what you’d say!
The singer touched down in a helicopter at on a Downtown Los Angeles rooftop Monday afternoon en route to a top-secret rehearsal for her big show performance Thursday night. Not exactly a subtle, silent entrance to VMA central.
We don’t know what Pink’s going to do this year to top her previous, high-flying VMA performances, but if her aerial arrival is any indication of its scope or spectacle, it’s going to be big.
Don’t forget to watch the Video Music Awards Thursday night at 8/7c to find out what Pink — plus Rihanna, Frank Ocean, Green Day, One Direction, Alicia Keys and more — have in store.

As we inch closer and closer to the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards , our favorite way to while away the hours and temper our excitement for this year’s star-studded, highly anticipated show is to look back upon highlights and “Best Of” moments from VMA year’s past.
This year, we’re focusing on footage from the last five years of Video Music Award history as the foundation for our “Best Of” polls. Today’s installment asks you to select the hottest VMA debut and the competition is as fierce as it is diverse. In narrowing down and naming the contenders, it’s amazing to see how new some of our artists are to the show, despite the fact that they seem like they’ve been around forever.
So whose inaugural appearance was the best? Adele’s stripped-down, goose bump-inducing vocal fireworks on display with last year’s performance of “Someone Like You?” Lady Gaga’s jaw-dropping and bloody theatrics on display in her 2009 performance of “Paparazzi?” What about Justin Bieber’s squeal-invoking drum solo during his “U Smile” medley in 2010? And Katy Perry’s VMA introduction via her smash hit “I Kissed a Girl” and a cover of “Like a Virgin?”
As we mentioned previously, the competition is fierce. Now it’s your turn to tell us which artist had the hottest VMA debut.
Cast your vote and be sure to watch for results on AMTV Tuesday, Sept. 4.

What caused this birthday cake to go from Karmin’s plate to all over their faces?
“This is a series of two pictures: The first one is of us about to eat the cake and then this is the aftermath,” Karmin’s Nick Noonan told MTV News. “You notice, somehow, my shirt became unbuttoned between two pictures; I don’t remember how that happened.”
Although we don’t know the full story behind these next five Instagrams, they’re the MTV News team’s favorite of the week:

On Wednesday (August 8), a group of us from the MTV News crew traveled out to Jones Beach on Long Island to meet up with Big Time Rush. The guys gave us an exclusive tour of the venue before their concert that night, and Logan, James, Kendall and Carlos couldn’t have been more fun. We got a backstage look, hung out a little bit in their dressing room … and the foursome just may have stolen a BTR T-shirt for me!
Big Time Rush then brought me onstage (pre-show), where they officially made me an honorary member of the group. But they may have had to rethink that decision after they tried to teach me some dance moves. Let’s just say it wasn’t pretty!
Be sure to check out our full behind-the-scenes tour coverage with Big Time Rush next week on MTVNews.com!
Proving their hearts are in the right place, the members of Maroon 5 have donated a signed guitar along with two meet-and-greet opportunities – one with frontman Adam Levine on the set of “The Voice” and the other with the full band, including four concert tickets – to a charity auction to raise money for a sick toddler.
The money raised will help pay the medical bills for Zoe Feldman, who turns 3-years-old this month. Zoe was diagnosed with sarcoma botryoides – a form of muscle cancer – and must undergo chemotherapy to treat the condition.
The auction is set up at CharityBuzz.com, and Levine tweeted a link to the auction’s page earlier today (August 6), urging fans to bid.
“Hey guys. Auctioning some sweet M5 items @Charitybuzz to benefit our friend #zoefeldman,” Levine wrote. “You can bid here … thank you!!!”
Bidding on the Maroon 5 items closes on August 21. The concert meet-and-greet with the band is currently going for $3,800, while the separate opportunity to meet Levine and attend a taping of “The Voice” is up to $3,250.

Miley Cyrus took to Twitter yesterday to debut a series of selfies, showing the world JUST how blonde a brunette can be.
When she ditched her naturally brown mop in July, she explained, “Now that I’m blonde I gotta give duck lips in every photo.” Which begs the question what photo face this new platinum look will require? With little to no inhibitions about herself or her lifestyle choices, she always does what she originally promised the world she would do – she’s just being Miley.
Check out her new look:
Some may think this new look is in preparation for her impending marriage to one of Hollywood’s most attractive men, Liam Hemsworth, but fear not – the 19-year-old singer told Marie Claire that she plans on having a long engagement.
“Life is too short not to be with the person you want to be with. I don’t really care about the wedding or the piece of paper as much as I do the promise we’ve made to each other. And we want to have a long engagement.” Amen!
We cannot wait to see what new hair styles and funky fashions Ms. Cyrus pulls out in the lead up to her wedding to Hemsworth. Blessedly, it seems like we will have lots of time.

Adam Lambert‘s latest album Trespassing debuted at #1 back in May, and now, nearly three months later, the former “American Idol” contestant is reassuring his dedicated fans that he does plan to hit the road in support of the set … but not until “the time is right.”
The glam-pop star hit Twitter last night (August 2) to tell the nation of Glamberts that a Trespassing tour will indeed happen but that they might have to wait a while longer. “Have no fear, a Trespassing Tour WILL come. When the time is right,” Lambert tweeted. “Trust me Glamberts! I won’t let you down.”
Lambert’s second album Trespassing topped the charts with 77,000 copies sold in its opening frame. The singer’s 2009 debut, For Your Entertainment, entered the chart at #3 and has gone on to sell more than 1 million copies.

As British singer songwriter Ellie Goulding nears the October release date of her new album Halycon, she is slowly but surely giving us a taste of the upcoming effort. A newly revealed trailer for the album showcases the multitude of styles and influences we can expect to find on the album.
The video provides the first batch of new material from the singer since her 2010 debut Lights, which went number one in the UK upon its release and houses the smash title track, which is still sitting pretty at #5 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
The two-minute teaser previews clips of several songs from Halycon.
Check it out:
It’s anyone’s guess if Goulding’s collaborative track with Skrillex and Swedish House Mafia members made the cut. SHM member/collaborator Sebastian Ingrosso wasn’t so sure if the song would even end up on her album, saying, “I think it’s going to be for album, but in this business you don’t know until you see it on iTunes.”
We got out first very first taste of new material from Goulding early last month when she released a wicked cover of Active Child’s “Hangining On,” which features guest vocals from Brit rapper Tinie Tempah.
Goulding’s first official new single, “Anything Could Happen,” is expected to drop on September 30 before we get Halycon in its entirety on October 8.
When he’s not busy representing his country at the Summer Olympics in London, diver Matthew Mitcham chills out in the – apparently very warm – Olympic Village with his ukulele. He’s uploaded a video of himself crooning to his official YouTube channel, joining the U.S. swim team in its attempt to have a little viral fun with a Youtube cover of a pop hit. And what song is the 2008 gold medalist showcasing for all of his fans? Beyonce’s “Single Ladies,” of course.
Mitcham says he uploaded the clip “because someone on twitter asked me to upload a video of me playing the ukulele.”
You can gripe that he didn’t opt for a more current song, but at least he didn’t toss his hat into the “Call Me Maybe” cover brigade. Also, it’s pretty perfect and undeniably adorable!
Check it out:
“I profess to be neither a great instrumentalist nor singer, I’m just an Olympic diver who likes to strum away in his spare time,” Mitcham wrote in the video’s description. “I think this is where I am supposed to credit Beyonce or something.”
What do you think of Matthew’s crooning? Do we have an Aussie Jason Mraz on our hands? Let us know in the comments below!
