Miley Cyrus Fans Loved Seeing Her Edgier

Miley Cyrus Fans Loved Seeing Her Edgier

Miley Cyrus took over the Internet on Monday night, when reporters live-streamed her live performance of six songs from her new album, Can’t Be Tamed. And though the 17-year-old has been showing off her edgier look and sound, the crowd at Los Angeles’ House of Blues remain stalwart in their fandom.

Kelly Rindonde, a fan who traveled all the way from Philadelphia for the show, is enjoying the new Cyrus. “She’s all grown up,” she told reporters after the show. “She definitely gave us a new side of Miley that was really exciting.”

“I like all her new music; it’s really a bit edgier,” Steven Mango agreed. “It’s really showing her personality break from Disney and everything.”

Many fans think that her evolution from Disney princess to pop star is indicative that Miley is isn’t going anywhere soon — and her performance even drew comparisons to other established legends.

“Her dancing something Michael Jackson would probably be impressed by,” Alex Satlan observed.

Tetris Kelly said Cyrus’ performance was reminiscent of another contemporary artist, particularly during a cover that wasn’t aired in the live stream. “By far my favorite moment of the show tonight was when she did ‘I Love Rock ‘n Roll,’ because, to me, it was a tip off to Britney … and that’s why I like Miley. She’s like the new age Britney.”

While Miley may be following in Britney’s footsteps by sharing onstage kisses with her fellow female and male dancers, other fans were pleasantly surprised that the singer was not completely uninhibited.

“We expected something that was going to be raunchy,” Pam Giannino said. “Everybody’s been putting the hype up, ‘Don’t go to this because she’s going to be provocative.’ It wasn’t. It was pretty awesome. She did a really good job.”

Miley Cyrus: Full Circle Is About Nick Jonas

Miley Cyrus: Full Circle Is About Nick Jonas

Posted on 01 Jun 2010 at 3:44pm

Miley Cyrus may be happily dating her “The Last Song” co-star Liam Hemsworth, but she had another boy on her mind when it came to recording “Full Circle,” from her Breakout album. While performing at the Rock in Rio concert in Lisbon, Portugal, on Saturday, Cyrus surprised fans when she revealed the inspiration for the track was none other than JoBro Nick, her onetime flame.

“It’s about two people. They’re always gonna come back together no matter what anyone says, the bad people that try to keep you apart. It’s a personal story,” Cyrus can be heard telling the crowd in a video posted on JustJared.com.

“Surprise, surprise, it’s about a Jonas brother,” she smiled. After singing a few lines, the singer added, “You didn’t hear that.”

The song isn’t new, but the revelation was. Miley and Nick dated for nearly two years before breaking up in 2007. On the chorus, Cyrus sings, “I try to run/ But I keep on coming back/ Full circle/ And I can’t jump the track/ Can’t let you go.”

The “Can’t Be Tamed” singer has never been too shy about discussing her relationships, but the star initially tried to keep the one with Nick under wraps. In a 2008 interview with Seventeen magazine in 2008, Cyrus opened up, confirming their relationship — and their breakup. In her book “Miles to Go,” published last year, she called Jonas her “Prince Charming.”

But the Lisbon concert wouldn’t be the first time the exes have used music to address their on-again, off-again relationship. In 2008, Cyrus released the breakup track “7 Things.” The video’s director, Brett Ratner, confirmed fans’ suspicions about the song’s intended target, when he noted that a piece of jewelry Miley wore in the clip was a gift from Nick.

“The necklace she’s wearing in the video is the necklace he gave her,” Ratner told reporters at the time. “She’s wearing his diabetes or medical necklace.”

The couple reconciled for a short time in 2009, recording the ballad “Before the Storm,” off the JoBros’ fourth album. But they parted ways again after Cyrus met Hemsworth on set. Jonas is currently unattached; he last dated from Disney star Selena Gomez.

Cyrus, Taylor Swift At Nashville Flood Benefit Concert

Cyrus, Taylor Swift At Nashville Flood Benefit Concert

Posted on 11 May 2010 at 12:40am

Taylor Swift donated $500,000 to Nashville flood relief last week, and the country superstar is continuing to do her part by lending her talents to Nashville Rising: A Benefit Concert for Flood Recovery on June 22. The event will be hosted by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, with funds helping Nashville recover from last week’s devastating floods.

Swift will be joined by fellow teen queen Miley Cyrus, as well as country stars like Carrie Underwood, Brooks & Dunn, LeAnn Rimes, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride and more names to come, People reports. The June show is set to take place at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Funds will go to the Community Foundation, which provides philanthropic services in Middle Tennessee.

“The damage that we’ve seen to people’s homes and the effect that the flooding has had on their lives is unimaginable,” McGraw and Hill said in a statement. “But we’ve seen the spirit of our community firsthand, as volunteers, church groups and our local business leaders rally to help. We all need to continue to support those in need in any way that we can, and for that reason, we could not be more appreciative to all of the artists, the companies and the people behind the scenes who collectively will make June 22 a truly special night.”

Ke$ha will hold her own benefit concert on June 16 at the Limelight entertainment venue in Nashville. “Nashville helped shape me as an artist and as a person, and my love for this city is beyond words,” she said. “I will continue to do anything I can to help rebuild this city and support the families and animals who have been affected by this tragedy.”

Kristen Stewart And Miley Cyrus At The Oscars

Kristen Stewart And Miley Cyrus At The Oscars

Posted on 07 Mar 2010 at 3:42am

We’ve already given them some sound fashion advice, but now we want to know who the Oscar attendees will be bringing with them to the show on Sunday. With a number of the presenters and nominees opting to bring mom to the Academy Awards, it could be quite the family affair.

While “Precious” star Gabourey Sidibe really wanted to get Justin Timberlake and “The Hurt Locker” actor Anthony Mackie “fight it out for the honor” of being her date, the actress confirmed to People that she will be accompanied by her mom.

In fact, it seems a number of the ladies will have mom by their side on the red carpet. “Up in the Air” star Anna Kendrick will arrive at the show with her mom and brother in tow. “I’m flying them out. I’m so excited,” Kendrick revealed to E! News. “My mom wants to meet George Clooney.”

Miley Cyrus, who is presenting at the show, tends to bring her mom to big events with her, so it’s no surprise she’s leaving beau and “The Last Song” co-star Liam Hemsworth at home. “Liam’s a pretty low-key guy anyway,” a source close to the couple told E!. “He doesn’t mind not going.”

Maggie Gyllenhaal, up for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Crazy Heart,” will also be with mom. The actress told Showbiz411, “I’m looking forward to doing the whole thing, all the parties. I know it’s crazy, but why not? I’m hoping I can bring my mom, too, to the Governors Ball.”

With both Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner presenting at the show, it seems like the “Twilight” stars would make perfect built-in dates for each other. “Yeah, I’m going,” Stewart said. “Me and Taylor are going to present.”

“The Bounty Hunter” star Gerard Butler, who will also be presenting, isn’t bringing a date — on purpose. “I’m not taking a date unless I have a serious girlfriend, which probably a lot of people know is very rare,” Butler told “Extra.” “There are enough rumors about what’s going on in my life without sparking another one.”

Miley Cyrus 'Proud' of Britney Spears

Miley Cyrus ‘Proud’ of Britney Spears

Posted on 11 Aug 2009 at 4:51pm

Remember when Britney Spears and Madonna kissed at the 2003 VMAs and it felt like some ceremonial passing of the pop-queen crown? Well, in some ways, that’s sort of how it was when Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus took the stage together at the Teen Choice Awards — just minus the liplock.

Cyrus presented Spears with the Ultimate Choice Award at the show and before the two pop princesses hit the stage, she spoke to reporters about how excited she was to finally be sharing the stage with her idol. “I’m doing something special with her tonight,” Cyrus told reporters on the red carpet.

Cyrus further explained that in addition to pairing up for the awards show, the girls have known each other and have been friendly for quite a while.

“She’s a good friend of the family,” Cyrus, who also performed her new single, “Party in the USA,” said. “So I’m just happy to finally be able to really show everyone that she’s back and she never went anywhere.”

In addition to both Miley and Britney finding success at a young age, Miley was quick to point out that the two, who are about 11 years apart in age, also share a common ground in terms of their upbringing. “I love how successful her music is doing right now and just proud of her,” she said. “You know, another Southern girl … I love that.”

Miley Cyrus Says She And Nick Jonas Have 'Reconnected'

Miley Cyrus Says She And Nick Jonas Have ‘Reconnected’

Posted on 12 Jun 2009 at 4:46pm

Almost immediately after news broke that Miley Cyrus had split from boyfriend Justin Gaston, speculation arose that she and her ex, Nick Jonas, have rekindled their romance. And the teens haven’t done too much to discourage the rumors: On Thursday, photos of Miley and Nick jet-skiing in Georgia emerged, and next Tuesday, their duet, “Before the Storm,” will be available for public consumption on the JoBros’ new album, Lines, Vines and Trying Times.

So, are Miley and Nick back together? Well, when Miley spoke to radio station 107.5 The River in Tennessee, it seemed like the answer was a definite “kind of.”

“He’s my best friend, and we still hang out all the time, and we’ve definitely reconnected,” she said when asked if it’s weird to work with her ex. “And we don’t know what’s going to happen in the future, but right now we’re just kicking it and hanging out as much as we can.”

The pair started to ignite rumors when they were seen at lunch together a few months back. Miley further explained that the two have managed to put any old problems aside to focus on the future.

“We both just kind of saw each other again and kind of decided this whole thing was stupid and … we all were over the separation,” she said. “And our families are super happy that we’re hanging out again.”

When reporters caught up with Nick Jonas earlier this week, he explained a bit about how Cyrus ended up on their new album.

“I think probably one of my favorite songs, because it has a great story to it. It’s a duet with Miley, which is great.” The song didn’t originally include Miley until Nick saw it as the perfect opportunity to record with his ex and to share their tale of young love with their fans. “It’s a good thing that happened, and it’ll be a good one to play live.”
