Turns out it wasn’t The-Dream who sent the now-infamous “N—as in Paris” tweet from Gwyneth Paltrow‘s phone, but the Love King still insists that his buddy did nothing wrong.

“Well, we were there, of course. We were Patron’d out of our minds, number one. Number two, I was moreso trying to take the heat for a friend because I knew that the reaction was going to be silly,” The-Dream admitted to MTV News on the carpet for Vitamin Water’s Fader concert series in Hollywood on Thursday night. “I know what she meant; I know what she didn’t mean.”

Last weekend, while onstage at the Throne’s much-ballyhooed Paris concert, Paltrow tweeted a pic of herself with a few friends and captioned it: “Ni**as in Paris for real @mrteriousnash (the dream) tyty, beehigh.”

The tweet caused much controversy, sparking a debate over who should and shouldn’t be allowed to use the N-word. The-Dream says he knows that the actress didn’t mean for the tweet to be derogatory and also suggests that the issue isn’t so black-and-white. “We created a song and titled it like that. It’s one of the biggest songs out, especially Jay and Kanye are two of the biggest rap figures,” he began to explain. “It’s like a catch-22, it’s like a trick, like ‘Yeah we’re gonna say it and we’re gonna sell it to you, but you can’t really use it and you can’t say it.”

After Paltrow came under fire, the “Shawty Is a 10″ singer came to her rescue and took the blame, claiming that he was the one who sent the message from Gwyn’s phone. Now he admits it was all just a cover-up. “I knew it was going to be silly from the beginning, so I just tried to jump to her defense,” he said to MTV News. “Unfortunately, people were bothered and I understand it to a degree, but you have to still understand that we give the word its own power.”

The magnitude of Hov and Yeezy’s historic concert isn’t lost on The-Dream. He hopes that by performing “N—as in Paris” multiple times in Paris, the Throne can eventually change the complexion of the city. “If you know the culture there, then you know it’s not really bound to blacks in that type of a way. It’s soft and gloomy, but it’s not us,” he says of Paris. “So I understand the title of the song, I know what the movement is, and I extremely was touched after they performed in Paris 11 times because I know that’s going to affect the culture 10 years from now.”

Miley Cyrus is hard at work on her fourth studio album. And while she attempted to branch out into a more adult sound on 2010′s Can’t Be Tamed, sources say this next studio release will be “very adult and sexy” and, more importantly, “believable.”

Sources tell E! News that the former Disney princess, who just announced her engagement to Liam Hemsworth, is “having fun making music for the first time in her career.” She’s reportedly sexing things up with producers Pharrell Williams and Hit-Boy, recording music in Miami and Los Angeles. The insider continues, “We are watching a young girl turn into a young woman.”

Cyrus is also taking other steps towards a more mature sound.
She’s working with music manager Bruce Flohr of Red Light Management and is no longer with the manager she had when she was closely associated with Disney. The source adds that people in her camp are referring to the musical move as “Miley 2.0.”

The fact that Miley is focused on her career might make her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, happy. Sources tell Radar Online that he’s hoping his 19-year-old daughter won’t rush to the altar. The source adds that neither Billy Ray nor Miley’s mother, Tish, was surprised by the engagement. In fact, Hemsworth asked for their permission before he popped the question.

“They knew it was coming,” the Radar source said. “Liam lived with Miley and her parents when they began dating in 2009. Billy Ray and Tish love him like a son. However, Billy Ray is concerned about how young they are and he hopes that they aren’t in a rush to get married.
Billy Ray hopes the engagement will be very long, but he isn’t opposed to the marriage at all. Billy Ray got divorced from his first wife Cindy, though, and he just doesn’t want Miley to go through a similar heartbreak.”

The same day the news broke, Billy Ray tweeted his congratulations to his little girl, writing, “All I ever hoped for as a Daddy was to see my kids reach their dreams. To find happiness … peace of mind …
and someday know … true love.”

Hemsworth asked Cyrus to marry him on May 31, after three years of dating. They met on the set of “The Last Song.” So what kind of ring did he get her? Well, she’s rocking a 3.5-carat diamond in a Neil Lane-designed setting that Hemsworth helped create.

Sources say the former pair tried to avoid each other out at a West Hollywood bar after his Rolling Stone confession.

John Mayer and Taylor Swift had the misfortune of being the same place at the same time on Tuesday night in Los Angeles. Making things all the more awkward was the fact that earlier that day, Rolling Stone published an interview with Mayer in which he admitted that Swift left him “really humiliated” when she released her track, “Dear John.”

Swift and Mayer had their run-in at West Hollywood hotspot Tower Bar. According to the New York Post, Swift walked into the hangout and noticed Mayer, who was there with a friend. “Taylor very visibly — in front of the entire restaurant — demanded to be moved to the other side,” the eyewitness said. “The bar’s usually an oasis of calm and privacy for celebrities and power players, but this was drama central.” But according to a Swift source who spoke with Gossip Cop, there was no nasty confrontation and while the singer was at the bar, it’s not even confirmed whether they saw each other.

Meanwhile sources tell that she’s still reeling from his interview. “I can’t believe he is trying to play the victim!” the source said of Mayer, who reportedly dated Swift in 2009, while they were working on music together.
“John was a player and treated her like s–t,” another insider says. “He looked at her as a conquest. Taylor is going to think even less of him now!”

While he may feel that using their relationship as fodder for her Speak Now ballad was “cheap songwriting,” when MTV News spoke to Mayer in 2009, he was singing a different, more pleasant, tune about the pop star.

“I woke up with the song in my head called ‘Half of My Heart,’ ” he explained, noting that the Battle Studies duet came about via Twitter messages they shared. “And the idea is that it’s this real sort of updated — not that it needs to be updated — sort of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks thing.

“I thought, ‘Well, if this is going to be my love letter to that style of music, who’s going to be the Stevie Nicks in this equation?’ ” he recalled. “And I thought, ‘This Taylor Swift girl is going to be around for a long time.’”

So, what is making Mayer so angry these days? Well, on her song, she sings, “Dear John/ I see it all now that you’re gone/ Don’t you think I was too young/ To be messed with/ The girl in the dress/ Cried the whole way home/ I should’ve known.”

“I never got an email. I never got a phone call,” he said in the new interview, out this week. “I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower?”

One Direction To Star In 3-D Concert Film?

One Direction To Star In 3-D Concert Film?

Reports have 1D attached to a 3-D flick set to hit theaters next November, though details on the project are scarce.

Coming soon to a theater near you (maybe): It’s 1D … in 3-D!

Yes, according to a report in the British newspaper The Sun, One Direction are set to star in an eye-popping 3-D film that is slated to begin filming next year. Which means that very soon, 1D obsessives will be able to plumb the depths of Harry’s dimples, explore the peaks of Niall’s mane or slalom down Zayn’s cheekbones … all in three very life-like dimensions.

Of course, the plot of the film (as if it really matters) has yet to be determined, with The Sun reporting that it may either be a scripted comedy — “a camper in the style of old Monkees films,” is how a source put it — or a documentary, featuring clips of the too-cute quintet in concert.

“It’s early days, but it’s something that their management and label are excited about,” the source is quoted as saying. “All options are open, though they’re unlikely to get cracking on shooting it until next year.”

The still untitled (and unscripted) 1D film will reportedly hit theaters on November 8, 2013, and it is intended to be an answer to Justin Bieber’s massively successful 3-D flick “Never Say Never,” which surpassed Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” to become the biggest concert film in U.S. history last year.

“U.S. film experts are speculating that the 1D film would be similar to Justin’s movie and will be a big money-spinner for the boys,” the source told The Sun.

Just how big of a, uh, “money-spinner” remains to be seen, though The Sun reported that the One Direction guys stand to make as much as &163;10 million ($15 million) each from the film. Of course, there’s still no official word on the project, and a spokesperson for the band did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment by press time.

Fat Joe tells MTV News his latest single is ‘what hip-hop is supposed to be.’

During the early 1990s, the Native Tongues was one of rap’s most influential collectives. Comprised of groups A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and Jungle Brothers, the crew collaborated on beloved hip-hop tracks like De La’s “Buddy” and “A Roller Skating Jam Named ‘Saturdays’.” It’s unifying tracks like those that inspired Fat Joe‘s latest single “Pride N Joy.”

“That’s exactly what it was,” Fat Joe said of the song’s Native Tongues comparisons. “It was like Native Tongues, it was like crazy, everybody was in there, and that’s what hip-hop is supposed to be.”

The track was produced by Kanye West and brought Miguel, Roscoe Dash, Jadakiss, Mos Def, Busta Rhymes and DJ Khaled all together in the studio. It was Yeezy who put the plan in motion.

” ‘Ye hit me up and said, ‘Yo Joe, it’s time.’ He don’t even get on the phone, so when he said it was time, I flew into New York,” Joe explained while backstage at Hot 97′s Summer Jam concert on Sunday. “We were up in there working in the lab for like three, four days.”

Originally the track featured a bridge sung by R&B stars Trey Songz and Miguel, but West felt the song was better served with a harder rap vibe. “He was like, ‘Yo we gotta turn it into hip-hop, we gotta chant the hook. He called a bunch of people, I called a bunch of people, they came down,” Crack said.

“And even if she all about the money, I don’t really care,” the MCs chant in unison while clapping their hands.

“We was all in there together and it was an ill vibe,” the Terror Squad leader said describing the scene in the studio. “We brought the microphone outside the studio and no Styrofoam and everybody together just going in.”

Though he is already two singles deep (“Pride N Joy” and the Chris Brown-assisted “Another Round”), Joe isn’t going to rush his eleventh album. There is currently no release date.

“I’m taking it back to the ’80s, when artists where putting out like four singles in a row,” he said. “That way you smash ‘em and the fans officially know, ‘Yo, this dude got nothin’ but hits on this thing, I’ma go cop the album.’ ”

'Django Unchained' Trailer: Five Key Scenes

‘Django Unchained’ Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Sneak peek gives us a closer look at Quentin Tarantino’s wholly original next film.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

You have never seen a cowboy movie quite like this. Quentin Tarantino‘s “Django Unchained” is a western unlike any other. For starters, it doesn’t take place in the Old West, but in the pre-Civil War South. Secondly, it stars Jamie Foxx as a freed slave, out to save his wife from servitude. But what else would you expect from Tarantino?

The first trailer from “Django Unchained” hit the Web on Wednesday (June 6), and we’ve taken the opportunity to break it down for you into our five key scenes.

Django Is Off The Chain
Right from the start of the first trailer, Tarantino lets us know how “Django Unchained” is going to handle slavery. While the auteur will obviously bring his own irreverent spin to the subject, he is not shying away from showing the ugliest parts of slavery. Once freed, Django stylishly throws off his worn-down blanket in ultra-cool slow-mo, but he reveals the scars and the reality of his captivity. The image perfectly captures how Tarantino strikes the balance between truth and style in what’s sure to be a controversial film.

It’s Good to Be King
But Django is only one half of a dynamic duo. His liberator, the dentist-turned-bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (notice the wordplay), is played by none other than Christoph Waltz, the scene stealer from Tarantino’s last film, “Inglourious Basterds.” Where Colonel Hans Landa was a merciless, if not reasonable, evildoer, Schultz is a simple-minded (but not dumb) kind soul, whose unfamiliarity with slavery makes him sympathetic to Django’s struggle to save his wife. He is an ally to Django, and — like Landa — gets many of the film’s best lines.

The Bloody Cotton
If one image had to capture what Tarantino is attempting to do with “Django Unchained,” this would be it. This movie is the first of its kind, a “bloody Southern,” Tarantino’s own genre of sub-Mason-Dixon Western action. He’s taking the look of the spaghetti Western — something he experimented with in “Kill Bill” and “Inglourious Basterds” — and transplanting it to the South during the time before the Civil War. It’s an entirely original mash-up, the kind we’ve come to expect from Tarantino.

Leo Has Our Attention
Perhaps the biggest attention grabber of this whole affair is former teen heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio as an egotistical plantation owner. For all his great roles, DiCaprio has never played such a clear-cut villain, and it’s clear he’s having one hell of a time in the role of Calvin Candie, who owns slaves and uses them for prize fights to the death. Yeah, that doesn’t sound like the Leo we know, and that’s exactly why we can’t wait.

The “D” Is Silent
Just in case you were wondering, you don’t pronounce the “D.” Jamie Foxx has only appeared in a handful of movies in the years following his Oscar win, but Tarantino has handed him a meaty and thrilling role that could very well lead to a comeback. His portrayal of Django is drastically toned down from Foxx’s usual roles, as Django is a relatively quiet character. Needless to say, he does get his share of badass one-liners in the trailer, and we’re just dying to hear more.

A fun fact about that last shot: it actually contains two Djangos. The man to the right of Foxx is Franco Nero, the man who starred in the spaghetti Western “Django,” Tarantino’s inspiration for the title.

Check out everything we’ve got on “Django Unchained.”

Jay-Z‘s career trajectory is something else. He was once a tongue-twisting underground MC who started his own Roc-A-Fella Records independently because he couldn’t secure a major-label deal. Now Hov is rap’s biggest draw, turning his multilayered bars into multimillion-dollar businesses.

In hip-hop, where so much worth is based on the notion of maintaining street credibility, it would be easy for someone of Jay-Z’s stature to lose touch. “I’m not jaded by the whole process,” Jay-Z insisted when he spoke to MTV News out in Philadelphia to announce his upcoming Made in America music festival.

On that day, Jay took the stage at the Philadelphia Museum of Art with the city’s mayor, Michael Nutter, which is nothing new. On his 2009 single “On to the Next One,” Jigga bragged that he had President Obama “on the text.” Still, the man who once battled DMX while standing on top of a pool table is not desensitized. “I’m a fan of the journey as well,” he said.

To his credit, Jay has remained on top of his game on the road to becoming a global icon. Just this past weekend, he performed in Paris, where he and Kanye West rocked their infectious rap hit “N—as in Paris” 11 times in front of a star-studded crowd that included wife Beyonc

Lindsay Lohan certainly looks happy getting her Elizabeth Taylor on in a new still from her biopic, “Liz & Dick.”

She’s all done up like the Hollywood legend in the first official photo from the film, complete with a black bob, smoky eye makeup and lipstick. The black-and-white still also features her Richard Burton, “True Blood” actor Grant Bowler, kissing the smiling actress’ neck. E! News reports that the photo was shot on May 29 at Lifetime Studios. The source added that they released the photo in black and white because they wanted to give it a “classic” look.

In addition to the official first look, there have been several paparazzi shots of Lohan on set that have hit the Internet. On Monday, a photo of Lohan wearing a leopard-print bathing suit and sunglasses while hanging out a boat was released on That same day, another photo of the star channeling Taylor hit TMZ. In it, she’s wearing an emerald green and ivory colored gown, smoking a cigarette. The site reports that Lohan isn’t wearing a wig in the film, but instead had her hair cut and colored to mimic the screen legend’s own signature look.

On Tuesday, Lohan and Bowler were photographed on a boat in what appeared to be a heated scene, where he was physically tossing her about (resulting in a bit of a wardrobe malfunction for Lohan). The Daily Mail reports that the scene will re-create the couple’s splashy vacation in Naples in 1965.

The story will focus on the steamy — and contentious — love affair between Taylor and Burton. The pair defined and redefined the rules for modern celebrity life as their torrid love affair often made the kind of the kind of headlines that would rival Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. “I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor,” Lohan said in the statement. “She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.”
